The Signs

← RETURN

A sign is not a fact about a company. A sign is a change.

Every sign carries three things: a type, a date it became knowable, and contents that are public. The date is not decoration — it is what stops us reading today’s knowledge back into last year’s decision.

The big green ones Everybody reads them, free. Price and volume, instant and universal — which is exactly why they are worth little. By the time a sign is on the interstate, the crowd has read it.
The small ones They belong to this road and no other. You only find them by pulling over and reading — the difference between one filing and the last one. They cost real work, which is why they still pay.
The rule Early is the entire game. A price is the crowd’s opinion, and once the crowd knows, the chance is gone.

The contents of a sign are what the public knows. We do not claim private knowledge and we do not need it. What we bring is the reading.
